Energy Efficiency

The cheapest time to make a house more efficient is while the walls are already open. When we are replacing windows, re-siding or remodeling a room, the insulation, air sealing and glazing decisions are right there in front of us — and doing them then costs a fraction of coming back for them later.

Energy Efficiency — example of the work

Scope

What the work involves

Insulation

Walls, floors and attic spaces insulated properly while they are accessible, rather than patched around existing services.

Air sealing

Sealing the gaps that actually move air — around openings, penetrations and top plates. Draughts cost more than most people assume.

Efficient windows and doors

Glazing and frames specified for your climate and elevation, fitted and flashed so the performance survives the installation.

Lighting and controls

Efficient lighting and controls specified as part of the electrical scope, carried out by licensed electrical trades.

How it works

From first call to final walkthrough

  1. 01

    Talk it through

Tell us what you want to change. We ask the questions that decide the price before anyone comes out.

  2. 02

    Define the scope

We measure, check what is behind the walls where we can, and put the work in writing — what is included and what is not.

  3. 03

    Build it

A scheduled crew, a sequence you can follow, and a clean site at the end of each working day.

  4. 04

    Final walkthrough

We walk the finished work with you and close out anything on the list before we call it done.

Questions

Before you call

Will this cut my energy bill?

It generally helps, but by how much depends on your house, your climate and how you heat and cool it. We will not put a percentage on it that we cannot stand behind.

Do you do HVAC or solar?

Not ourselves. HVAC, electrical and solar are separate licensed trades, and we bring in appropriately licensed contractors for them as part of a project.

Is there a rebate for this work?

There are California and utility programmes that change often. We will tell you what we know and point you at the current programme rather than promise you a specific rebate amount.
